This week our Board of Directors had their annual retreat at Barona,
to discuss the Chamber business model and reevaluate our goals. Our
Board is dedicated to the businesses of Lakeside and returning to
the core of our mission statement – helping businesses of Lakeside
and the economic environment. Our mantra this year is “Lakeside
supporting Lakeside”.
To accomplish this it was agreed that the chamber must become less
event driven and more goal driven. THIS DOES NOT MEAN WE ARE
CUTTING ANYTHING, in fact our goal is the opposite to make the
events bigger and better than ever. How are we going to accomplish
two seemingly arduous Goals? We are going out to our community and
membership to work in collaboration so we are able to accomplish the
goal of supporting business & hosting successful events. Together
we are all stronger and as Chamber president I am excited to work as
a team member alongside other organizations. Collaboration equals
strength.
Returning to the core of our mission statement, we will create new
programs and workshops to educate the community on issues and
educate business owners about tools that help them better their
businesses. Look for larger mixers & breakfast mixers with guest
speakers who can give our members the skills they need to be
successful.
We are also looking into innovative ways to increase our manpower,
resources and knowledge. Discussion of amending our bylaws and
creating 2 Ex Officio Director seats is taking place. These board
members will be appointed by the president and serve a 1 year term
and will assist on committees.
We are looking for candidates who share our passion for Lakeside,
those who believe in “Lakeside Supporting Lakeside” and want to help
us create an organization that affects change, influences our
government officials, works side by side with other service
organizations and makes Lakeside the best place in East County. |

If you are or anyone you know wants to be a part of this great
organization, please contact the Chamber ASAP. On that same note,
we have lost 2 board members in the construction/contracting
industry, Anton Botter and Chad Enniss. We all know Lakeside is a
construction town and we would like to get more representation from
this business segment. Contact the chamber office for details!
One of our main goals, this year, will be focusing on membership.
While the chamber is growing, we want to increase our membership at
a quicker pace. The bigger we are, the louder we are and the more
we can accomplish. If you know anyone who has been on the fence
about joining- TELL THEM NOW IS THE TIME! The Chamber experience is
a prosperous one and many will attest it is also an enjoyable one,
please join us!
Our Board also looked into making hard but necessary changes to our
newsletter. The time has come for us to go green and reduce
paper, postage and staff cost; while increasing the benefits to our
members. Our newsletter will now be distributed via email & our
constant contact program. We will create a one page info sheet
which will be delivered to popular sites around town for our local
residents to pick up. We believe these changes will actually
increase our members’ exposure and open doors to new clientele. To
learn how you can advertise become part in this new technology,
please contact the Chamber.
A
special thanks to Barona Resort & Casino and Bonnie LaChappa, for
allowing us to hold this important retreat at their facility and
thank you to David LaChappa for our buffet dinner. The venue was
conducive to creative thinking! I am looking forward to these new
and exciting ideas that will support our members and support
Lakeside!
