IF YOU HAVE ALREADY SIGNED UP ON THE SAFER LAKESIDE YAHOO GROUP, then you have already received the above message about Tuesday’s meeting.

We will continue to use our regular email list in addition to the Yahoo Group for a couple of months so that everyone has a chance to sign up for the Yahoo Group. At some point we will discontinue using this email address, and communicate exclusively using the Safer Lakeside Yahoo Group. Thank you for being a part of this very important process.

Hi,

Thank you for your interest in the Lakeside Disaster Preparedness Program.  We have set up a Yahoo Internet Group to make communication between us all the most effective.

Important note:  You will need to join the Yahoo group in order to receive bulletins from the Safer Lakeside Disaster Preparedness Program.  (Soon they will not come from this email address.)

Below are instructions for joining the group.

EMAIL ONLY OPTION - If you are not very computer savvy, and/or just want to receive future emails, then just reply back to this email and we will simply add you to the yahoo group.  You will receive all future emails that are posted to the group, however, you will not be able to access previous posts and/or any photos or documents that have been added to the group for viewing.

FULL ACCESSIBILITY - In order to have full access to the Safer Lakeside group, which includes viewing all previous posts, and any pictures and documents, you will need to join Yahoo.  It is free. (If you are already a member of other groups, it will be very easy to add yourself to this one.)

INSTRUCTIONS TO JOIN:

You will be receiving an e-mail from “Yahoo! Member Services” inviting you to join the Lakeside Disaster Preparedness Group named “SaferLakeside.”

CLICK the blue button “Join this group!”

Next you will see details about the group.  Feel free to read it, but all that is required is for you to scroll down to the button and click on “Continue.”

Next you will be asked to log into Yahoo.  If you already have an existing Yahoo account, just log in with your Yahoo ID and password and sign in.  If not, you will need to create a Yahoo account.  If you need to create a Yahoo account, click on “Sign up now” located under “New to Yahoo!?”

If you are creating a new account, you will be asked a few questions.  Type in the Yahoo ID you’d like for yourself and password.  Then answer the rest of the questions, such as the security question, birthday, e-mail address, name, country, zip code and gender.

Also, further down on the form you may want to deselect the checkmark next to “send me special offers…” so that you aren’t on their mailing list. (Just click on the checkmark once to remove it.

Then, enter the letters you see in the box (for me it was “FX13h2” but a different word or letters shows up each time) Then click on “submit this form.”

Next you will be notified that your Registration is completed.  You will be asked if you want your toolbar personalized.  If you want that, leave the checkmark.  If you don’t, or don’t know what that means, you may want to deselect the checkmark.  Then click on “Continue to Yahoo!”

Next you will be asked to verify your e-mail address.  Click the word ‘verify’ that is listed in the parenthesis next to your e-mail address.

In order to verify your e-mail address, you will need to enter your password again.  Then click “continue.

Next you will be given instructions on how to verify your e-mail address. (Basically what the instructions are saying is to go right now and check your e-mail for a registration confirmation e-mail from Yahoo, and then follow those instructions.)

Note: If you need to close out of Yahoo right now in order to check your e-mails, that is fine.  It is okay to close out of Yahoo at this point.

You should have two e-mails from Yahoo. Registration Confirmation and Please Verify Your E-mail Address.  Open the one that is marked “Please Verify Your E-Mail Address.”

Click on “Important! Please click here to verify this email address for your account”

This will take you back to Yahoo where you will be asked a few more questions pertinent to joining the group.

Note that listed under ‘Message Delivery’ are 4 options.

1.         Individual e-mails means every time someone posts an e-mail, you receive it.

2.         Daily digest means each day you receive one e-mail each day that includes all the postings for that day.

3.         Special notices means you only get e-mails that are posted by Safer Lakeside, and not by members of the group

4.         No email means no e-mails are sent to you, but instead you decide when you want to go read them by logging into yahoo.com.  There is a web site where all postings are listed.

Next, click on ‘Join.’

FINALLY, you will receive membership confirmation telling you that you are a member!

Now, all you need to do to post an e-mail, or respond to one, is send to email to:

saferlakeside@yahoogroups.com

Also, at this point, you will automatically receive e-mails that are sent to the above e-mail address.

If you experience any problems setting up your yahoo account, please contact us at saferlakeside@earthlink.net.
